Julie Schleif, horn, Julie is a sought after orchestral musician in the northern Michigan area and throughout the United States. She is Principal Horn of the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra in Michigan, where she appeared as soloist in Benjamin Britten’s Serenade for Tenor, Horn and Strings, Opus 31 last season. This past spring included performances of Strauss’ Alpine Symphony with the New York Philharmonic.
Ms. Schleif is an avid chamber musician. Recent performances include the American premiere of Andrew Downes Sonata for Violin, Horn and Piano. Other chamber music opportunities have taken Julie throughout the world, including Egypt, India and Peru. She has had the joy to be involved in several commissions of chamber music for horn.
Equally passionate as a teacher, Julie frequently gives master classes and clinics throughout the country and abroad. She maintains a very active private studio in the northern Michigan area. Ms. Schleif has been able to reach even more students from far reaching cities in recent years via FaceTime and Skype.
Many of her former students now have flourishing careers as performers and teachers, including tonight’s other horn player, Leelanee Sterrett. It has been an incredible joy to perform with many of these wonderful players as they thrive in our wonderful musical world.
